What is cold-rolled steel?
This term refers to steel that, regardless of grade, has undergone forming. Cold rolling is forming at room temperature; hot rolling, by contrast, is carried out at a temperature of 1,100° C.
Steel is produced in blocks. To be able to make various steel products, it must be rolled. Through several process steps, steel can be rolled to a desired material thickness - this requires passing the steel through several rollers. Only in this way can an ever-thinner steel sheet be obtained. A pattern can also be achieved by rolling steel: one example is trapezoidal sheet, popular as roofing for sheds and carports.
How is cold-rolled steel produced?
Producing cold-rolled steel requires great forces. In return, however, a great deal of energy is saved compared with hot-rolled steel, because heating can be dispensed with. Cold rolling is used to produce steel sheets, coiled products and stainless steel profiles, because it enables the formation of a profile.
Passing through heavy rollers changes the crystalline structure of the steel. At the same time, grain size is reduced, resulting in higher strength. It is important that this work is carried out below the recrystallisation limit. Because the steel must be rolled several times, cold rolling takes more time than hot rolling.
Where is it used?
Its use follows from the advantages of cold-rolled steel, which lie above all in appearance. Cold-rolled steel is used whenever a particularly smooth surface is desired - one that can even be polished to a high gloss.
The following properties characterise cold-rolled steel:
- higher strength (up to 20%)
- finer surface
- higher metal hardness
- the degree of precision is higher than with hot rolling
- grain size is reduced
- the production process is more efficient
Why are we experts in stainless steel?
At this point we would like to introduce our company - then it will surely also become clear why we call ourselves experts in stainless steel. We look back with pride on more than 100 years of company history. It began with the founding of the Berlin-Burg railway in 1908. A decisive influence on our company, however, was the expansion into a rolling mill in 1937: we ourselves produced rolled steel for many years.
The closure of the rolling mill by Georgsmarienhütte in the 1990s was a turning point - but at the same time it laid the foundation for our present-day company. Since then, we have seen ourselves as a stainless steel service centre. Since 2013, we have been a family-run medium-sized company. To position ourselves profitably, we made major investments, which allowed us to increase our capacity for the trading and processing of stainless steel.
Thanks to our large warehouse, in which we constantly hold more than 2,000 tonnes of stainless steel, and our efficient processes, we can assure our customers of high reliability and fast delivery. For this we employ 35 people, whom we train well and retain long-term.

Our offer is aimed at all customers who need individual sheets and sheet products made of stainless steel. Since our restructuring, it has been important to us not to work only for a group of selected key accounts - small orders from private individuals were always part of our plan. So we are pleased to be able to manufacture cold-rolled steel products for you too.
We are highly efficient. Although we place great value on quality and always work with millimetre precision to customer specifications, we are very fast: as a rule, we need less than 2 days from order acceptance to dispatch of the individual products. As you can see, even the time factor is on our side. Our stainless steel services are divided into three areas. All sheets first pass through cutting - that is obligatory. We can also gladly offer you forming: professional bending and folding machines mean we can offer you individual angle sheets too. Our third pillar is surface treatment, where we can grind, pickle or foil-protect your sheets.

We have kept a little something from the past: there is no online shop with us where you can order around the clock. Cold-rolled steel is sold by us exclusively in personal customer contact. That matters to us, because stainless steel is no off-the-shelf product. Our customers' wishes are varied: while one is looking for a new floor plate for a trailer, other customers want to build a high-quality outdoor kitchen from heat-resistant stainless steel themselves.
As experts in stainless steel with years of experience, we know exactly what matters here. The material properties of the various stainless steel grades differ - that is the main reason we place so much value on personal advice. Stainless steel sheets that prove unusable for their actual purpose are hard to use in any other way, and we want to prevent unnecessary scrap.
