Sheet 1.4828: Properties & Buying Guide

We are happy to share our knowledge with you. In this article we look at the properties of heat-resistant sheet 1.4828 - and what it is best suited for.

Because stainless steel is not all the same, you should familiarise yourself with the properties of the specific grade before buying. This ensures that you actually receive a stainless steel sheet with the right material properties. Or you simply ask the professionals - our team.

We are happy to share our knowledge with you, and here we take a closer look at the properties of sheet 1.4828.

It is a particularly heat-resistant stainless steel sheet, which also defines the areas in which grade 1.4828 is used. We will show you what it is especially well suited for.

What exactly is stainless steel sheet 1.4828?

It is an austenitic, heat-resistant steel. Its chemical composition according to the guide analysis consists of a maximum of 0.2% carbon, 1.5 to 2.5% silicon, max. 2.0% manganese, a maximum of 0.045% phosphorus, up to 0.015% sulphur and a maximum of 0.11% nitrogen. The proportions of chromium (19-21%) and nickel (11-13%) are considerably higher.

It is therefore also referred to as a chromium-nickel steel with specific material properties.

How can sheet 1.4828 be processed?

Heat-resistant sheet 1.4828 is characterised by good forgeability. Work is carried out in the temperature range from 1,150 to 800 degrees Celsius, or 1,150 to 1,050 degrees Celsius for solution annealing. Subsequent cooling can be carried out in water or air.

Scaling resistance is given up to 1,000 degrees Celsius. The temperature range of 650-850 degrees Celsius should be avoided, as sigma-phase embrittlement could occur, reducing the material's toughness.

Compared with other stainless grades, the corrosion resistance of sheet 1.4828 is relatively low. Above 900 degrees Celsius, this steel offers only limited corrosion resistance to carburising gases and oxygen-poor gases containing nitrogen. Even at 650 degrees Celsius, resistance to oxidising and reducing gases containing sulphur is limited.

In summary, the properties of sheet 1.4828 are suited above all to applications with high demands on mechanical properties.

Where is sheet 1.4828 used?

Demand for this stainless steel is rising continuously. It is regarded as the standard material for components that are subject to high mechanical demands and at the same time must be scale-resistant up to 1,000 degrees Celsius.

It is therefore no surprise that stainless steel sheet 1.4828 is used in furnace construction, apparatus engineering and mechanical engineering. Tubes and sheets of heat-resistant 1.4828 are used as annealing pots, annealing baskets, hardening boxes and carburising boxes. It is also used for grates and screens in high-temperature environments. Further fields of application are the automotive industry and the chain industry.

Every customer is welcome here

We too are fondest of large orders with high quantities, and we have the capacity to take on series production. However, we have quite deliberately decided to design our production so that individual orders with small volumes can also be handled economically.

Our focus is on the precise cutting of sheet 1.4828 and other metals directly to the customer's specification. Because we know how important strict dimensional compliance is for you, we continually invest in our machine park and in training our employees. Only in this way can we meet our own quality standards.

We are proud to be able to offer you very attractive prices for sheet 1.4828. Because we always buy very large quantities, we achieve good purchasing prices - an advantage we are happy to pass on to you. Our prices are transparent and fair. See for yourself.

Made-to-measure sheets instead of standard products

It would be much easier for us to produce large quantities in the same size. But that would help neither you nor any of our other customers. Or would you want to try cutting a sheet of the right size out of one of our perfectly cut sheets yourself? Better not - you could seriously injure yourself.

For us, producing an individual sheet 1.4828 for each of our customers is no challenge at all. That is why we can also assure you of on-time delivery and absolute precision. You can rely on us: you can take our sheets out of the transport packaging and process them immediately.

It makes no difference whether you order a single stainless steel sheet 1.4828 or 100 of them. You will experience the same attentive service from our sales staff. And cutting is always accurate to the millimetre.

In addition to sheet 1.4828 presented here, we also stock various other grades suitable for other applications. Ideally, let one of our competent staff advise you and find the optimum material together. We usually stock European stainless steel standards, but can also source stainless steel to foreign standards for you.

We can do more than just cut sheets

We are also happy to offer further processing steps on the sheet 1.4828 you order - to the same high quality standards, of course. We only offer what we can genuinely deliver:

Cutting sheets is our core competence. We have various methods at our disposal for cutting sheets of different thicknesses precisely - including a plasma line and a large cut-to-length line. Laser-guided cutting is also available.

Many customers also use our forming services. We offer bent profiles, multiple bends and curves. We also produce channels and Z-profiles to customer specification. Every forming operation is absolutely uniform, because we maintain dedicated machinery for it.

Because sometimes a particular surface finish matters - or simply for visual reasons - we have extended our processing range to include surface treatment. We can pickle, blast, foil-protect and dry grind.

Why should you put us to the test?

We operate a huge production site centrally located in Germany. We have automated our production processes as far as possible and therefore produce quickly. Our own target is to dispatch every customer order within a maximum of 48 hours.

To make that possible, we hold a permanent stock of around 2,000 tonnes of stainless steel sheet - including, of course, stainless steel sheet 1.4828. This allows us to respond flexibly to customer orders without long lead times. You need a sheet today? We can deliver it within a few days.

Simply give our sales team a call without obligation. They can quote you the price for your desired 1.4828 configuration straight away. A single phone call brings you to your individual sheet.
